BOAST NOT
Wk 21 Day 1
(Make Up Reading)
2 Corinthians 12:6
6Should I desire to boast, I shall not be a witless braggart, for I shall be speaking the truth. But I abstain [from it] so that no one may form a higher estimate of me than [is justified by] what he sees in me or hears from me.
Indeed, there are lots of the things that Lord has done in us that we can boast about. Just like what Apostle Paul said, we must boast only about our weaknesses to point back to what Christ has done in us. A lot of times, we like to boast about the great things – yet we must desire to be humble and hold our tongue in boasting about them. Why? “…because I don’t want anyone to give me credit beyond what they can see in my life or hear in my message.” (NLT). If we do boast, boast about our weaknesses and what CHRIST HAS DONE that He may be glorified for what He can and has done for us.
It’s easy to just talk about the great things in life – the stuff that happen everyday. Yet, I know I must learn to ONLY talk (boast) about what God has done for me. To share the weaknesses that I have and how Christ has empowered me to overcome them. Just like Paul, I must make it a goal to hold my boasting other than the weaknesses that Christ has enabled me to overrule in my life. In the same way, I must not allow people to give me credit beyond what they can see in my life.
:: Lord, I pray that you will give me a humble heart to always be slow to speak about things in my life that may allow people to give credit beyond what they can see. I pray that I will always share what You have done for me in the weaknesses that I have and how you have moved my life to overcome them. God, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT IS TO BE GLORIFIED. Take all of me… More of YOU and none of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
