Think about...
Philippians 4:8-9
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
It's so funny how even though, as Christians, we already know most of God's answers to the somewhat "rhetorical" questions we have everyday, we still want to look for the the actual confirmation; something tangible and something we can really see. This verse reminds us that when we are anxious about anything (4:6), we ought to just lift it up to God and He will give us peace. When we are unsure whether or not we should do something, think of things that are excellent and praise worthy (4:8b). Don't just put aside what we've already learned. We need to learn to let go of our attachment to caring so much about what people might feel or say. Think of what they would say in light of God's glory. When there are times we want to do our own, yet is not entirely inline with God's Word, just don't.
*sigh* There are many things I want to do... things that I think make other people feel happy. Yet, if I look at it closely, my spirit leads me to believe that I ought to be admirable in the decisions that I make everyday. I ought to remember to practice what I've already learned in the past; not forgetting what was already experienced but to move beyond that, now with greater strength to face new things. I must constantly think about how I can glorify God despite what people feel and say. I've done this before, on a greater scale (in my own experience and opinion), so everyday is no different to be strong enough to say YES to excellent and praise worthy things!
Lord, please help me to not care so much about what people would say or feel NOW. Help me to make them see what they and others would feel/say in the FUTURE. Sometimes, I am still caught up with catering to those. Please give me courage and strength to always be praise worthy and excellent in the decisions that I make, big or small. Thank you Lord for this reminder and confirmation ;) You're awesome! In Jesus' name, amen.
