Proverbs 30:1-3;7-9
1 The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh contain this message.
I am weary, O God;
I am weary and worn out, O God.
2 I am too stupid to be human,
and I lack common sense.
3 I have not mastered human wisdom,
nor do I know the Holy One.
7 O God, I beg two favors from you;
let me have them before I die.
8 First, help me never to tell a lie.
Second, give me neither poverty nor riches!
Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.
9 For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?”
And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.
Have you ever met someone (or maybe you yourself) who seemed to know a lot about a certain topic but in reality, they were just talking "shallowly"? I have experienced this myself when I myself didn't really know what I was talking about, yet in my mind, I "knew" what I was talking about. It's kind of the same with Agur. He didn't really know God- what He can do and what He can bring to his (Agur) life. He talks about how great God is (truth) but at the same time, talks about himself and his requests to God (opinions). His requests were real and were definitely honest. However, v. 9 talks about an opinion that he has which, I think - as what I've learned, lacks faith. Once we really know God, we know what God can do and the tone of our voice, the vocabulary that we use when we talk about God changes to something that really resembles God. My encouragement for this is that, we must know God more and more so our words will be seasoned with His truth - not opinions, or what we think God's name brings, etc. - but rather who God really is. We don't want to be walking around claiming we know God when in reality, we are just talking about God on a surface level. Get to know God and watch our language change to proclaim who He really is!
How awesome is this to get reminded of who God is. He is more than a great God to me! I want to be able to speak only of GOD's ultimate truth - not surface level knowledge. I want to be able to speak about God on a level wherein I can talk to anybody about God that will reveal who God really is. Thus, I will walk with Him daily, know Him more and more by reading His word, studying His word and communicating with God as much as I can. I want to know God more so I can be a carrier of His power - someone with real substance!
Lord, use me. I pray that you will help me be like a sponge that will soak up all of who you are - what you can do - and everything that you are! I want to know you more. Open my heart continually that I can be a walking vessel to proclaim your power. Thank you. In Jesus' name, amen! :)
