Exodus 15:24-25 (NLT)
24 Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded. 25 So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him.
Sometimes when bitter things happen to us, we start to grumble just like the Israelites. No matter how many times this happens to us, we still forget to trust our Lord. When the Israelites had nothing to drink for 3 days, they finally saw an Oasis in Marah where there was bitter water. They started to complain because it was bitter. Yet, when Moses asked God for help, God answered him and told him to throw a piece of wood on to the water and it turned sweet. God could do mighty things like that. He could use the simplest things to make bitter things into sweet. God used this incident to test the Israelites faithfulness... sadly, they failed because of their grumbling. However, God never changed; He remained faithful. We may be going through some "bitter" things in our lives. Yet, this might be the "testing" time where God wants to see our faithfulness to Him even during "bitter" times.
I will remain faithful to God no matter what happens in my life. We may be going through some tough times right now as a family - moving and relocating, yet I know that God is faithful. He will never forsake us. He can use anything to turn "bitter" things to sweet. I can't wait for that to happen. For the mean time, I will be faithful - no compaining! :)
Thank you Lord for this reminder. As much as we get reminded with these things all the time, as people we still go back to what is easy to do - complain. Help me Lord to stay faithful and always see things as an opportunity to give the glory back to You! You deserve all my praise. You are my God! :) AMEN
