GREAT CATCH
(From ODB)
Luke 5:5-7
5Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
Sometimes we get so frustrated with all the work we've put into and not seeing the results. A few things I see here in this passage:
- The disciples have put in some effort and have done their best to get a good catch.
- They eventually gave up and caught nothing.
- Sometimes miracles happen when we least expect it.
- The disciples just obeyed what Jesus said even after all the hard work.
- Jesus knew the right timing, when to get all that fish.
I may have worked hard on some of the things that are good (good catch). Yet, God knows the right timing when I could get the greatest catch. Just like the disciples, I need to just do my part. Even if I've already work hard and caught nothing, I know God will do miracles even after I've worked hard and have "given up" on things. It will come when I least expect it (at least from this passage). It could come anytime, am I ready?
- Because the disciples were overwhelmed with the catch, they had to call for help so others can help contain their great catch.
When I get my great catch, I can share it to others - the joy, the love, the blessings and the favor that God is going to give in my life, my ministries, my family and every part of me. For right now, I just need to lay the nets where God wants me to throw it in. God wants me to throw it in the deep. That's where the great catch is. WOOH!
:: Lord, please lead me. Let me know where the deep is so I may throw my nets there. Thank you for your Word that always guides me through. In Jesus' name, amen.
