ENCOURAGING DISCOURAGEMENTS
Wk 8 Day 5

Job 17:13-15

13 If the only home I hope for is the grave,
if I spread out my bed in darkness,

14 if I say to corruption, 'You are my father,'
and to the worm, 'My mother' or 'My sister,'

15 where then is my hope?
Who can see any hope for me?

No one has probably every experienced what Job experienced in our day and society now (as far as I know in North America). Yet, in spite of all the hardships and trials that he went through, all the "encouraging discouragements" that his friends gave to him, he was still able to put his hope in God. His friends were giving him advices that are actually discouragements that were coated with "encouraging words". Yet, we know Job knew exactly how to respond to them.

Cool Stuff:
  • When we are fully grounded on the Word of God - his righteousness and His truth, no "encouraging discouragements" will move us - our feet will be firmly planted.
  • No situation is too impossible for us to conquer when we know who are trust.
  • When a person knows his God, Redeemer and Savior, even in the darkest situations, the person will see a bright shining hope.
I need to:

... ground myself in God's Word for more root to dig deep on the ground.
... trust God more and know that in seemingly hard situations, there is always hope for me.
... encourage others of the same thing.

Lord, you know what's in my heart. Thank you for Job's example that teaches me how to fully put my faith in You. The things that you have done in the past are so great compared to what you have done for me so far. I am excited and anxious (in a good way) to see what you're about to do in my life. I pray that you prepare me and that you guide me in everything. I trust in Your truth and Your power in Jesus' name, amen.
