COVENANT
(Wk 6 Day 3)

Judges 2:1, 20-23
1 Then the Angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: “I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you.

20 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel and said, "Because this nation has violated the covenant that I laid down for their forefathers and has not listened to me, 21 I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died. 22 I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the LORD and walk in it as their forefathers did." 23 The LORD had allowed those nations to remain; he did not drive them out at once by giving them into the hands of Joshua.

Regardless of how the Israelites were, God may have punished them for their wrong, He never retracted his promises to them. The covenant that God made with them, he still fulfilled it. However, if we disobey God's covenant, we know that God will also withhold his blessings. Why? Because we don't deserve it and it will go to waste. Yet, we see that in this passage, God was still so merciful to the Israelites. He didn't drive them all out at once... why? probably because He wanted to see if they'd still repent.

God's mercy reaches high above the mountains... He will not break His covenant... Thus, be obedient to Him.

I will obey. Sometimes it's so hard when my flesh kicks in. I need to just suck it in and keep myself busy so I don't have to think about it a lot.

Lord, please give me the ability to do so - to obey you and to listen to what you have told me to do. I want to see you covenant come to reality. That will soon... I will be faithful. In Jesus' name, amen.
