Matthew 4:6
"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

When Jesus was tempted to show-off his powers, he told Satan not to tempt him. Jesus showed an extreme amount of self-control in this particular verse. He basically had to hold himself together so he won't do it at the expense of "answering a fool according to his folly". Jesus didn't give in to that. He knew that he will not fall to the ground if he wanted to. He could do just about anything, but he refused to do it for the sake of proving himself to be the Son of God, rather, he showed and portrayed self-control. How many times have we been tempted to "show-off" what we have or what we know for the sake of foolishness or just to show-off for the sake of it? Many times probably. But how many times do we actually control ourself and act towards what is called for - the higher calling rather than what our impulses tell us to do. Remember, Jesus could've showed his power, but he limited it so he can even show more proof that He is the Son of GOD!

I need to always check my reactions... Am i acting impulsively? or am I controlling myself? I will check my actions if I am in control or are the situations around me controlling me. If I forget, I will remember how Jesus showed self-control while he was tempted. That should keep me safe from being impulsive and out-of-control.

God, please let me be like your Son, Jesus who was able to control himself anytime, anywhere. Help me to have your strength, wisdom and the ability to do so when sometimes things are asking otherwise. You are a God of self-control, thus, I must actively portray that as your daughter!!! Thank you Jesus for your great example of self-control. It is YOU I worship!!! Amen
