Disciple's Prayer Life
Day 3 (4)
National Day of Prayer - May 7, 2009
Jesus and the Holy Spirit - Intercessors
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)
14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
:: Jesus is our High Priest who intercedes for us. We can approach God's throne with confidence and boldness. He is can sympathize with us because He was just like us, yet without sin. He was tempted in every way, yet He was perfect. We approach God's throne and our High Priest for the purpose of obtaining mercy, and to find grace to help in time of need.
Jesus Intercedes for Us
"You pray jointly with Jesus Himself."
:: Every time we pray, we are not alone, for Jesus is also praying along with us.
"Every prayer you utter has Jesus supporting you, interested in you, seeking God's very best for you."
The Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us
Romans 8:26-27 (NLT)
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believersa]">[a] in harmony with God’s own will.
:: The Holy Spirit intercedes for us; ceaselessly interpreting our prayers to the Father in light of God's will.
"The Holy Spirit, who indwells you, is your advocate here on earth. Jesus Christ, the One who gave His life to save you, is your Advocate in heaven.
Today's App:
:: I have Jesus and the HS as my Advocates (yet one!) when I pray to the Father. I can come boldly to God knowing that the HS will interpret my prayer. Today, through out the day, I will come to God in prayer as how Jesus would tell the Father.
:: Lord, thank you for reminding me who my Advocates are - Your Son and the HS. I pray that you give me a heart that will constantly communicate with you in every thing in my life. Forgive me for being selfish and just thinking about my own agenda. Please help me to be like Your Son Jesus who was selfless and full of humility. Help me to be sensitive to others, what they feel and how they would feel towards me, my actions, my words and my life. I pray that You will help me walk a life of encouragement. Guide me Oh Lord. All this I lift up to You in Jesus' name, amen.
